At CleverCam (Pty) Ltd ("we," "us," or "our") we respect your right to control your personal information. This page explains what personal data we hold and how you can ask us to delete it — including any data associated with Facebook Login and WhatsApp messaging through the CleverAlert platform.
If you only want to stop receiving messages rather than delete your account, see "Opting out without deleting your account" below.

What data we may hold
Depending on how you use our Services, we may hold:
- Account details you provided — name, email address, phone number, and username.
- Facebook Login data, if you chose to sign in with Facebook — the name, email address, and profile picture you permitted us to receive through the Facebook permission you granted.
- WhatsApp details, if you opted in to receive alerts or updates from us over WhatsApp — your contact number and the notification/message history for those communications.
- Operational records tied to your account where applicable — for example your sites, alarm or event history, and service records.
- Device and usage data as described in our Privacy Policy.
How to request deletion of your data
You can ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you at any time. To make a request:
- Email us at hello@clevercam.co.za from the email address associated with your account.
- Use the subject line "Data Deletion Request".
- Tell us which account or phone number the request relates to, and whether you want your entire account deleted or only specific data (for example, your WhatsApp contact details or your Facebook Login connection).
We will verify that the request comes from you, or from someone authorised to act on your behalf, before we act on it. This protects your account from unauthorised deletion.
Timeframe. We will acknowledge your request and complete the deletion within 30 days, unless a longer period is permitted or required by law. We will confirm by email once it is done.
What we delete. We will delete or anonymise the personal information we hold about you in our active systems. Some information may be retained where the law requires it (for example, financial records for tax and accounting purposes), or where we need it to prevent fraud, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Any retained data is isolated from further processing and deleted once the legal basis for keeping it ends. Copies held in encrypted backups are removed on our normal backup-rotation cycle.
Deleting Facebook Login data
If you signed in to CleverAlert using Facebook:
- Remove our access on Facebook. Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites, select CleverCam, and choose Remove. This stops any further data being shared with us.
- Delete the data we already received. Send us a Data Deletion Request as described above and we will remove from our systems the information we previously received from Facebook.
WhatsApp messages and opting out
If you receive notifications from us over WhatsApp:
- You can stop the messages at any time by replying STOP to any WhatsApp message from us, or by asking us to remove your number.
- To delete the WhatsApp contact details and message history we hold, include this in your Data Deletion Request.
Opting out without deleting your account
If you do not want your account deleted but simply want to stop communications, you can:
- Reply STOP to any WhatsApp or SMS message from us.
- Click unsubscribe in any marketing email.
- Adjust your notification settings in the app.
We may still send you essential service messages that are necessary to operate your account.
Your rights under POPIA
If you are in South Africa, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) gives you the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. If you are unsatisfied with how we handle your request, you may contact the office of the regulator:
